She is a Spiritual Counselor and teaches spiritual growth and development classes to groups. Workshop: Cell regeneration How your Body Heals Cell Regeneration is a process of mobilizing and directing the flow of cellular energy to stimulate, facilitate, and accelerate the natural healing processes of the human body. Cell Regeneration functions according to the principle that the body has a self correcting capacity, which follows the original DNA pattern. This natural biological phenomenon is independent of the patient's belief system. The source of healing energy is the same as the growth energy used by a fetus in embryonic development. A similar process is seen in some creatures that are able to regenerate entire limbs or body segments. Biophysicist Wilhelm Reich described this energy within the nucleus of each cell as “the little blue dot,” (melanin) which is how it appears under high-powered microscopic observation. The practitioner acts as a catalyst to direct the client's energy flow where it may have been blocked by injury, stress, or disease. By means of breathing techniques and a variety of noninvasive hand techniques the practitioner directs the energy of the client's autonomic nervous system to various nerve plexi. The natural energy flow of other distressed areas of the body is boosted by the practitioner's bio-magnetic field. This natural energy flow reactivates the normal self healing process in the client's body. Biography: A. Consequently, we find ourselves too exhausted to enjoy peace and serenity. Or, we waste time listening to or living out loud the woe are mes, then find ourselves tossing and turning those bits of peace and serenity into unrecognizable globs of noisy, self-discontent…Whatever happened to the concept of carpooling or taking the more scenic route…then stopping to smell the roses? How do we go about shutting out the synthetic clamors of day-to-day living to relish those sounds that please the soul?”

I see now in Black communities across the globe many of us have a problem with claiming responsibility for our health and well being. We seem to feel as though someone or something is going to fix it for us. This has not always been our approach. Workshop: Reclaiming Responsibility for Our Health and Wellbeing/ Questioning the HIV/AIDS dilemma Western medicine has an approach that “you don't worry about a thing we got a pill to fix that two” everything from a headache to AIDS. In the past we had our own healers and our own methods that we passed down or we relied on to work with us as we cared for ourselves and our love ones. During our workshop we will explore and share some of these methods, remedies and techniques. Many or often in the back of our minds and we don't pull them up and use them. And many our folk would be very receptive too if we mention them and or remind them of these precious approaches to our selfcare and care of our families. We have some very serious problems that are facing us with regard to reclaiming responsibility for our health. As long as we leave the care and welfare of ourselves and our loved ones up to a system that is based on capitalism, greed and male ego, we will never have the heights of optimum health that will allow us to truly excel to the heights that we are capable of. When we understand that the HIV/AIDS industry is one of the few including military and prisons that did not suffer budget cuts. That it is fashionable to say you have AIDS in some African countries in order to get the benefits from some organizations over there. that the non-government organizations (global non profits) through out the world that are focusing on AIDS often inflate there numbers to keep their money flowing. When we know that in this country the numbers of AIDS/HIV cases were declining and the U.S. changed it's definition of what could be considered an AIDS case and increase the numbers by 50,000.

Bridges, Branches & Braids, an organization working with negative energies in positive ways, offers women an opportunity to experience the power and wisdom of rage. Our programs are inner-directed and support the discharge of traumas that give birth to rage. Through somatic truth telling, contemplation, artistic expression, self-awareness and self-compassion, we reunite body and mind and break patterns of generational suffering. Workshop: From Rage to Reason When we feel enraged, what we do next is crucial. If we are unaware or irresponsible, we tend to case more suffering to ourselves and others. However, if we are more self aware of our choices, we can heal in an instance. In this mini workshop, we will learn two techniques that will support us in moving from rage to reason. With sound reasoning, we suffer less and cause less suffering.
I practiced a form of “guerilla gardening”, transforming vacant lots in the East Bay into edible/medicinal gardens for various communities. I have taught composting and school gardening, developed educational curricula, and facilitated Earth Education classes. I have founded a not-for-profit, community-based organization; Communities United Restoring Mother Earth (CURME) to further my dream of inspiring communities to remember/learn how to grow their own food, herbs (medicinal, culinary, aromatic, economic), native plants to bring wildlife to the garden for natural pest control, etc. Workshop: Growing Healing Food Drugs nor herbs are a cure for anything. The intelligent human body is capable of healing itself. The first step in this endeavor is to take back our lives by growing our own whole/healing foods, naturally. Even food labeled "organic" sometimes goes through some form of chemical processing on the journey from the soil to our table. Be advised that it doesn't matter how much space one has (or doesn't have): a rooftop, a windowsill, stairs, a balcony, a patch of dirt, a community garden, a school garden, etc., all are healing spaces for whole/healing food. Nutrition is the study of how food and the body interact. Good whole/healing food is food which contains the right types and amounts of nutrients (materials needed by the body for growth and good health). Nutrients include energy-giving parts of food (carbohydrates and fats), body-building parts of food (proteins), and the vitamins (which protect the body and assist it in functioning). All your nutritional needs can be met by the whole/healing food you grow. We can all be strong and healthy when most of our protein and other foods come from the plants! Let's get a dialogue going on ways to grow our own!
Rashida, an interfaith minister, recognizes that our lifework is to return to the heart, where the Divine One, which is expressed in countless forms, resides. Her intention is to honor the sacred in every living thing, to encourage and support others on their spiritual/life journey. As we heal our hearts, communities, environment and the world. She is currently completing her first book and has become the founding Spiritual Director for the Sophia Oshun Universal Life (S.O.U.L.) Spiritual Center. Workshop: Dreamcatcher Self-Care Seminar Rashida Lee hosts weekly seminars, workshops and retreats discussion what “Self Care” really means to women. Most women probably view “self-care” as primping; that is, the physical aspects that would include visits to the hair salon, manicure/pedicure, massage, shopping, etc. None of these are indispensable and much needed. However, the premise of this workshop is the “self-care” of the soul and our emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Rashida provides a forum to overcome some of the “sacrifices of self” women make in taking care of others' needs. The seminar elucidates ways and methods to put you in the healthy position of “it's all about me, me, me!” This can be viewed as “selfish,” however, it is the highest expression of “self-love”. As women, we cannot take care of others effectively if we are empty and lack love for ourselves. We hope that you will join Rahsida for a lively discussion and exchange of ideas and ways of self-care. You will leave the seminar uplifted, renewed and changed. Workshop: Egyptian Yoga Abu Ari Anhka is the Metu Ntr (Kemetic) title for “the dance which brings the soul to life.” Abu Ari Anhka uses body movement to express the universal language of Art. When we look at the hieroglyphs it is easy for the common eye to see a picture. We know that a picture is worth a thousand words. But the glyphs are more than just picturesque symbols of communication, they are thoughts of the divine translated, Metu Ntr. This workshop will show its participants how to explore dimensions of their own divinity by putting sound and movement to these divine thoughts. The workshop participants will have a general introduction to the significance of Egyptian yoga and Egyptian Reiki known as Ra Sekhem. The exercises they will be introduced to will allow them to create a sacred space within themselves. The basic techniques covered in this workshop will be based on the Metu Ntr script, “Ankh Ujah Seneb”, translated as life, strength and health. The participants will leave with techniques and tools that will empower their life, strengthen their bodies and improve their health. I will focus on breathe as the key to life. I will show them powerful breathing and meditation techniques that can be used to center and ground the body within the spirit .I will focus on the Egyptian Yoga Postures and positions used to illuminate the spirit and strengthen the body from the inside out. Finally I will empower the participants by showing them Reiki (Ra Sekhem) techniques which will help them utilize their own positive energy to heal themselves and increase their own energy field through their hands. Biography: I am an African American woman in her late twenties. Although my career began in medicine as a medical laboratory technician, I have gained valuable business and finance insight. My economic background has further sparked my desire to design and implement quality care for all. I was an AVP for Wells Fargo bank for 5 years and have been in financial serivces for over 12 years. I became a researcher for Children's hospital when I returned to college to persue my dream to become a physician. For almost three years I have worked along side Dr. Marhsa Treadwell, Ph. D (also African American) at Children's Hospital of Oakland, towards improving care for sickle cell patients in Oakland and the Greater Bay Area. Some projects that I have participated in include; "Improving Awareness to an at risk community," "Improving Emergency Room Care", and working towards increasing resiliency in children and families affected by AIDS in Zimbabwe. Our current project at Talking Drums is towards measuring stress and reactivity in children living with sickle cell disease. Projects like these have provided helpful data towards bridging the disparities in healthcare perceptions of both health care providers and patients. Biography: Keisha was born and raised in Hanford, CA, a small agricultural community in the central valley. After receiving her BA in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, she served for one year as an AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) Member in Sacramento, CA. While there, she developed a community planning training program that built the capacity of community members to utilize data in their efforts to improve their neighborhoods. Following her service as a VISTA, Keisha dove into the world of alcohol policy work, organizing citizens to work towards reducing the negative affects of alcohol on communities. From keeping a national discount chain from selling cheap, high alcohol content beverages in an area already over concentrated with liquor stores, or preventing a liquor store from installing gasoline pumps along a strip well known for its DUI arrests, to meeting with state legislators to pass laws closing loopholes for businesses that sold alcohol to minors, Keisha worked tirelessly to keep communities healthy. During this busy time, Keisha earned her Master of Public Health degree in community health education from San Francisco State University. Prior to joining the American Heart Association, she served as the health educator at a youth center in Berkeley, CA, where she developed activities to encourage healthy eating and physical activity habits among the youth and their families. Since joining the AHA in 2002, Keisha has successfully developed and implemented programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Workshop: Domestic Weapons of Mass Destruction My presentation will cover some of the “Domestic Weapons of Mass Destruction” that are found in food, medicine, “personal care products,” and other areas of our environment. I also address the ways we can protect ourselves and our family from the harmful effects of those weapons. Some of the known biological/chemical warfare agents that I discuss include: aspartame, chlorine, fluoride, mercury, microwaves and vaccines. I also discuss the economic and legal issues behind the attack against alternative health methods and providers. I offer suggestions on how we can protect our ability to choose the healthcare methods that work for us. Black folk in the U.S. act as if the government is responsible for solving all of our problems, particularly the ones related to our health. Statistics show that every year more and more of us are developing - and dying from - dis-eases that are very easily prevented and cured. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina the world watched Black folk die from the U.S. federal government ‘management” of our pain, suffering, and death. We must wake up to the fact that no one can save Black folk but Black folk. Women are generally the care givers. We do the shopping for food. We handle crises brought on by dis-ease. We purchase most of the “miscellaneous” items that come into the family home. We need to know exactly what it is we are buying and what healthy alternatives are available. I would like to think that after my presentation at least one woman will change the way she thinks about the articles that she buys and uses for herself and her family.
