I am pleased to extend to you an invitation to participate at the Black Women's Health and Healing Conference & Festival 2006. The conference will be held from September 28 to October 1, 2006, at the beautifully renovated Oakland YWCA located1515 Webster Street in Downtown Oakland. The theme of the conference is “We Are Our Own Healers.”

The purpose of this very important 4-day conference is to challenge women to make their own health a priority. Offering a wealth of health-related resources, panels, workshops, demonstrations, tours and education; we have structured this event to address both western-based medical approaches and holistic approaches to physical and mental health and well-being. As primary caregivers, women are the ones to deliver the message of health to their families, thus this conference has the potential to educate and provide health resources not only to the participants, but also to the entire Bay Area African American population  

Investing in health disparities reduction makes good business sense!

We expect 400-500 women and girls from diverse backgrounds, faiths and academic achievements to attend this four-day information-filled affair. In this dynamic, inspirational gathering, health researchers, mental health practitioners, community outreach workers, lay health advisors and a community of women who are often weary, skeptical, or misinformed about health services will network about ways to get healthy and stay healthy in unhealthy times.

More than 40 vendors and exhibitors will represent private and public health services, drug and alcohol prevention programs, mental health services, rehabilitation facilities and community outreach programs.
